Slick Rock Student Film Festival This Saturday
The 10th annual Slick Rock Student Film Festival – Central California’s largest student film competition – is scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at the Fox Theatre in downtown Visalia. This year, the festival received 192 films, representing the work of over 380 students. The high school films receiving a “Premiere Cut” designation will be screened at the theater beginning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning. A screening schedule will available at www.SlickRockFestival.org on Thursday, May 16. At 5:30 p.m., students who played a central role in producing "Premiere Cut" films (along with their advisors) are eligible to participate in the Limo/Red Carpet Walk. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Fun Fitness Event in Sanger to Benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

The Grove in Sanger is hosting The Mud ‘n Blood Zombie Run on Sunday, June 2, 2013 to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The event begins at 7:00 a.m.

Runners can choose a 2.5k or 5k course.  Participants are encouraged to dress in Zombie costumes.  The course winds through blueberry fields, tree lined roads, over and through water crossings and includes ups and downs and ins and outs obstacles. Some of the obstacles are hard, some are very hard.  Runners can choose to skip the obstacles.

Each participant will start the race with three flags. The object is to finish the course as fast as possible with at least one flag left. Zombies on the trail will try to steal flags from the runners. “Medics” will be placed throughout the course to give back one flag, one time.

Meet Sanger’s New Fire Chief

Greg Tarascou is no stranger to the city of Sanger.  He has been with the fire department for 12 years and spent the past 19 months as the Interim Fire Chief.  He stepped in to fill the role when Chief Clyde Clinton retired in 2011.

 

Tarascou was officially given the top post and sworn in April 26, 2013.

Free Document Shredding

Central Valley Community Bank is once again offering free shredding of legal documents for personal or business needs.

The mobile shredder will be in different locations throughout the San Joaquin Valley in the coming months. What makes this shredding safe is that papers will be shredded in different locations - to help combat identity theft concerns.

Student Filmmakers Wanted!
The Tulare County Office of Education is preparing for the 10th annual Slick Rock Student Film Festival – Central California’s largest student film competition. The deadline for students to submit their films is Monday, April 15. Middle and high school students in the seven South Central Valley counties of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare are eligible to compete in the festival. Instructions for uploading films can be found at www.slickrockfestival.org.

California Ag Leadership is Recruiting!

Applications are now being accepted for Class 44 of the California Agricultural Leadership Program (CALP). Growers, farmers, ranchers and individuals working in allied businesses and organizations are encouraged to apply.

The Ag Leadership Program, operated by the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation (CALF), is considered to be one of the premier leadership development experiences in the United States. Nearly 1,200 men and women have participated in the program and are influential leaders and active volunteers in the agriculture industry, communities and other areas.

The 16-month program, from October 2013 to January 2015, is composed of monthly seminars delivered by Cal Poly, Pomona; Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; California State University, Fresno; University of California, Davis; and other academic institutions. Fellows also participate in a 10-day national travel seminar and a 15-day international travel seminar.
